                                A Community Supported Agriculture Farm

What Is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

A CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm. The growers and consumers provide mutual support, and share the risks and benefits of growing fresh, seasonal produce. In return, members receive "shares" in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating direclty in the food that they eat.

The Root Connection is Washington state's oldest CSA farm. Since 1987, we have been growing local, chemical-free food for the community at our 14-acre site in Redmond, Washington. By joining our CSA, you are supporting a way of farming that's kinder to our land. Community Supported Agriculture allows small local farms to thrive, protects vital farmland from commercial development, and gives you and your family the highest quality, fresh local produce.

Why Should I Join the Root Connection?

The Root Connection offers much more than a weekly share of freshly picked, chemical-free, pesticide-free,  fungicide-free food for your family! Here are just some of the added benefits of being a Root Connection member:

  • U-Pick greens, herbs, and flowers are free, which greatly increases the value of your share.
  • Our open campus allows members to walk around the fields, where you and your family can enjoy the beauty of the farm and the educational aspect of watching things grow as the season progresses.
  • Owned by Its Members. The Root Connection is actually owned by some of its members! (For more information, see Root Co-Op on main menu above.)
  • You are supporting your local farmer and helping preserve farmland right in your own back yard. Did you know that the Sammamish Valley is one of the 10 most fertile valleys in the entire country?
  • Our Children's Garden is a great place for kids to learn about where food comes from and how farmers grow it.
  • Free interactive cooking classes are offered by some of our very talented members, and you get to enjoy a gourmet feast afterwards.

What's New...

  • Newsletter! Click here to read our 2010 newsletter and get all the detailed information you need about the farm. We especially suggest this if you are new to the Root Connection.
  • CSA signup form for 2010 season. It’s not too early to sign up for the upcoming season, which starts in June, 2010. Please reserve early, as we do fill up.

  • Winter Shares 2009-2010Make sure your family gets organic fruits and vegetables throughout the winter and early spring, and save money too. You can still buy winter shares for the months of March and April, 2010. The deadline for March is Feb. 20, the deadline for April is Mar 20. All produce is Certified Organic.

  • Recipes! Browse through our yummy recipes from “the best of” from our members, using the veggies we grow for you, including the weird ones like kohlrabi and fennel (“what do I DO with this?”). You can search for recipes by vegetable type, so it is convenient and a great source of info. If you have a favorite recipe, we'd love you to share it with us!

  • The Roots of Our Times Cooperative is still seeking investors. Some of our CSA members are now part owners of the farm too! Find out how you can ensure the future of The Root Connection Farm by becoming an investor.
